We all love to eat and to help celebrate this mutual love for food. Fr!day magazine organised the first ever Friday Restaurant Week 2017.This culinary event is celebrated in thirty five major cities like New York, Amsterdam and many more. The first edition was held in New York in 1998.
Friday Restaurant Week 2017 was a five day long event dedicated to all the food lovers and organized with the aim to promote the food culture among the Nepalese people. This was celebrated across the Valley with the help of fifty five amazing restaurants who prepared and served up some amazing dishes. The participating restaurants had set exclusive menus for a set price. This was ideal for people who either wanted a casual lunch or wanted to experience fine dining at its best.
The whole concept behind this event was to break the pattern of people visiting their usual stomping grounds and try out new places. Another important aspect of this event was to offer people to dine and experience the same quality of food and service at reasonable prices which would further encourage them to revisit the place.
Friday Restaurant Week kicked off with its launching ceremony at Hotel Annapurna on the September 13, 2017. It was inaugurated by the Karna Sakya,Nepalese environmentalist, hotel entrepreneur, writer and above all the man behind the establishment of Thamel as a popular tourist destination where he shared his experience about Nepalese food and culture and sought for ideas to promote the same throughout the globe. He felt that Nepal’s food culture has the potential to outperform among the world’s cuisines but people have not made an attempt to explore and promote it. Thus, events like these are much appreciated and well received. It was a well attended event and the people were served delicious Newari Food.
The Restaurant Week began on the September 14, 2017. For this people pre-registered for the restaurant they wanted to enjoy the food at with their friends and families. It certainly was not easy to choose from fifty plus restaurants! We had many food bloggers, celebrities and foodies in general to attend the event. Restaurant owners also welcomed this concept with open arms as it would not only benefit them but the general food culture of Nepal. They were excited at the prospect of creating new and unique dishes and welcoming a whole new clientele.
