Bold and exuberant colors, abstract yet rich with history and tradition. The 26 paintings on display since 21 November at the lower levels of Siddartha Art Gallery are a must-see. Last in the series of events held to celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relationship between Nepal and Australia, “BALGO: Contemporary Australian Art from the Balgo Hills” showcased the aboriginal art pieces from 18 different artists resident in the remote area of Balgo in the Western Desert of Central Australia. Through the art pieces - ‘communicative rather than decorative’ - the artists revealed their own unique interpretations of their subjects.
Also, on level three of the Siddartha Art Gallery, another exhibition by the Australian Artist Donato Rosella was held. This exhibition called “Once in a Life Time Part 2” displayed a series of mixed media art works. Inspired by his father’s death and his own near-to-death experiences, these art pieces dwelled on the theme of life and death. His works included impressions of bodies on Lokta paper – bodies in their last breaths of life – and a bone assemblage skeleton of ‘two and a half kangaroos’.
Inaugurated by H.E. Ms. Susan Grace, the Australian Ambassador to Nepal, the exhibitions will continue at Siddartha Art Gallery till 5 December.
