This Halloween, October 31, 2019, saw the “Largest Gathering of Pirates in a Land-Locked Country” – 103 pirates from Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, England, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Ireland, Japan, Mongolia, Nepal, Norway, Russia, Sweden, and the USA gathered at the Hotel Yak and Yeti to party like there was no tomorrow.

What happens when you get over a hundred pirates together on the spookiest night of the year? Well, a pretty wild night, I can tell you that. The themed decorations were amazing, the booze abundant, and the costumes of the participants outstanding, with a lot of creativity, humor, time and effort having clearly gone into the elaborate costumes. Then the music started and the dancing began, and if you’ve never seen pirates dance (including a pirate yeti), well, you’ve really missed something.

This memorable party night was just one part of NEPALOOZA19—the name of the 5-day event celebrating the re-wedding celebration of Elin Kylvag of the Royal Norwegian Embassy and her husband Ludo Van Vooren. I think it’s safe to say that it’ll be a hard one to top, and a party that all of us lucky enough to attend will never forget.
