Don’t you just love it when you are in a restaurant enjoying your food and soft music plays in background? It is just so soothing and enhances your enjoyment and relaxes you. At many restaurants that provide live music, the choice is pop, but at Jazz Upstairs, as the name suggests, it’s live jazz that you’ll be enjoying—every Wednesday, and Saturday, and also occasionally on Monday. Their menu is simple, with the most popular dish being mo:mo (pork mo:mo to be specific) and aloo dum. Combine aloo dum with roti or rice curry, and the flavors will burst in your mouth, it’s so satisfying, simply delicious. And as for vegetarians, veg cheese mo:mo is recommended and also tofu curry rice is very flavorful to try.
Located at Lazimpat, Jazz Upstairs also has a rooftop balcony with a great view of the city. With kitchen on the top floor, you might also be able to observe live cooking, the beautiful aromas reaching your nose, making you impatient to savor your food.
But getting back to the music, since there are not many restaurants playing live jazz in the city, a huge crowd of jazz lovers gather here on Wednesdays and on Saturdays. Delicious food, and jazz with it, what else can one ask for! And the ambiance is perfectly suited to enjoy jazz and get cozy. Also, the pool table is free to use here, though you may have to wait your turn to play the winner.
Jazz Upstairs, Kathmandu Jazz Conservatory (KJC) and House of Music are all places that promote jazz and are trying their best to make the music available to a wider public. If you want to experience some some great music for yourself, visit Jazz Upstairs in Lazimpat every Saturday and Wednesday from 8 PM- 10 PM (and sometimes Mondays). Who knows, you might start grooving.
