Fr!day teamed up with SuvaniMoktan to review the food at Cine de Chef, the self-described “cocktail of food with movies”, and we must say we did not return disappointed.
I love food, and I love movies. So, the idea of enjoying both these two things at the same place was something that had me quite excited. Cine de Chef is a theater that caters to both movie lover and foodies. It combines cinema with fine dining, which is a concept that has not been explored elsewhere in Nepal. It has been around for a few years, but it was recently taken over by the Civil Group, and they have been busy the last few months making it better than ever.
I have been coming to Cine de Chef for a long time. I like the idea of watching a movie while lounging on a sofa. I’ve had the buffet here, which is quite good, as well as mo:mo and a bunch of other things, as well. But this is the first time I am here solely to enjoy the food.
When you enter Cine de Chef, you first enter the lounge area, which is lavishly decorated. It was recently redone and it has certainly paid off. It has comfortable couches where you can lounge in, as well as restaurant-style seating for a proper dining experience. You can either enjoy the food inside the theater while watching a movie, or you can eat out here in the lounge.
Moving on to the food, which is what we were here for, I must say I was not disappointed at all. The first item we tried was Crispy Chicken Nuggets with tartar sauce. It was quite amazing. The outside of the chicken was crispy while the inside was tender meat. The sauce went well with the chicken. I would 100% order this again.
The next item on the menu was Grilled Chicken Salad. Now, I have never been much of a salad person, but I was pleasantly surprised. The grilled chicken in the salad was good, but it was the sauce that really made the dish. It really pulled all the ingredients in the dish together. If I ever feel like having a salad, this is what I’ll go for.
The third dish we tried was Meat Lovers Pizza. The pizza itself was quite good, which is not something you can say about a lot of pizzas in the capital, however, I’ve had better. I’m rather partial to wood fire pizza, so while this pizza was really good, it did not blow me away. Still, I would not mind having this pizza again, and I’ll give it a 3.5 out of 5 stars.
The fourth dish was Chicken Corden Bleu with blue berry sauce, and it was my favorite. I loved absolutely everything about it, and it was very, very, very good. I would come back here just to eat this again.
The fifth dish was Stuffed Comte Chicken with shallots. It was the signature dish at Cine de Chef, and it certainly deserves that honor. It was really good. The chicken is slightly dry, but somehow, it works with the dish. I would order this again. We then had a fruit salad, which was simply a platter of fresh seasonal fruits that were quite fresh and went well with each other. There is nothing to complain about in this dish. Finally, for dessert, we had apple doughnuts with chocolate sauce. It was sweet and quite rich in taste. I liked it a lot, and it went well with the sauce.
On the whole, the food here was quite good, and I could come here just for the food. The ambiance, with the new décor, makes a great setting to enjoy the food. The service is impeccable, and the food is simply delicious. Overall, I would give this place 4.8 out of 5 stars.
