A lot of restaurants serve good food, but they don't have good service, Marriot serves food with the best service you could ask for.
I liked Fairfield by Marriott the second I walked in. The lighting and setting of the restaurant reflects elegance, and it is airy. The picturesque patio is perfect for a sit down monsoon dinner. I was genuinely impressed by how well this four-month-old restaurant was doing. Their staff was all smiles and attentive throughout dinner. The cuisine embraces the Western esthetic—organic, simple, and ingredient- centered—with game changing styling and plating. I visited KAVA, the restaurant, with a group of friends for dinner. I’d been here before and had really enjoyed the food, so I was excited to try something new off the menu today. The restaurant was busy on Sunday night, with families and travelers staying at the hotel.
The restaurant has a breakfast and lunch buffet everyday, and dinner buffet on Fridays. They do have an a la carte menu, but I recommend the buffet. We opted for the latter, beginning with a Burrata-Buffalo Mozzarella and herb roasted tomatoes. Two scoops of cheese served with a generous serving of Basil Pesto were all that was needed, paired with a glass of wine, to start our dinner. The cheese was rich and buttery, and it blended perfectly with the pesto and fresh tomatoes.
The Wild Mushroom Risotto with Basil was my favorite dish from the dinner. A difficult dish to master, Chef Pranjal Gogoi had done an impeccable job with it. It wasn’t runny or too thick; it was creamy to perfection and an excellent choice. This bowl of risotto could truly be needed on one cold and bad day. Such comfort!
The most stunning dish was the pan-seared Scottish Salmon with crushed potatoes, wild spinach, and white wine sauce. The colors, textures, and bold flavors all played nicely together, though I wish there was a tad bit less seasoning on the salmon. The crushed baby potatoes added such aesthetics to the plate. The use of beetroot indicates the menu is not strictly seasonal. Nonetheless, the results are excellent, especially as the plates are so artistically assembled, a rarity in our increasingly casual dining landscape.
KAVA serves food all night, and is the perfect place to get you that mid-night meal on a late night out at Thamel. The space is wonderful, the staff is nice, and the food, excellent. And, just before leaving, I saw some Beetroot and Ricotta Kofta on a bed of spinach, and sure they looked tempting. Can’t wait to give those a try!
