From hiking to biking to spending a luxurious time in the comfortable resorts, the place has so much to offer to those who want some escapade into the nature.
How to get there
From Ratna Park, you can take a micro bus to Budhanilkantha Temple (Lord Vinshu’s temple) for Rs. 20. You can also go for a taxi that will be a little expensive (around Rs. 500) but saves you time. From there, you can walk till the Shivapuri gate at Mulpani or contact people who can arrange for your transport. (see Need to know index)
Hari Krishna Temple
If you’re taking your own vehicle, park it here and you can continue with the journey. Pilgrims from different locations come to this temple for worship and bhajans. There is Chaitanya Holistic Yoga Studio, which offers energizing activities like yoga for kids as well as for adults, personal counseling, music meditation and acupressure.
Shivapuri National Park
From Shivapuri National Park, you can get glimpses of Langtang, Manaslu and Ganesh Himal ranges. This well preserved area is home to numerous species of birds and animals. Rare animals like leopards often roam around between dusk and dawn.
The small nunnery beneath the Shivapuri peak is a haven for nuns to express their faith through sacred music, prayer and meditation. You will be impressed by the peaceful environment, with the sound of fluttering prayer flags and caws of crows.
Dhamma Shringa, Nepal Vipassana Center
Contact them if you want to go for the meditations and courses offered. They have different kinds of courses for people of different age groups. You will get to observe yourself and rejuvenate, away from your mundane life.
This is a popular picnic spot. Enjoy the view of the Himalayas from this place. It is said that there used to be a golden water spout shaped like a tiger’s mouth, but unfortunately, it was stolen. A similar one but only with golden plating was later made which is taken for procession to the villages nearby on the Nepali New Year’s Eve and brought back to the same place the next day.
A popular spot for picnics, this place is full of natural beauty with a huge waterfall nearby. Holidays see a huge crowd of people retreating to this otherwise secluded place; so if you’re looking for a quiet time, choose the oddest of weekdays.
Spend some time volunteering for children of Dadagaun Village School. Engage yourself by teaching them art, music, sports, group games, sewing and so forth. Shanti Sewa Griha, a leprosy rehabilitation center, and Helpless Child Orphanage are two other social institutions you can visit.
Besides hiking and bird watching, go for adventurous activities like mountain biking on a mix of fabulous jeep tracks and single tracks that run along the laps of Shivapuri. Your schedule permitting, you could go on a day biking trip or a longer one of 2-3 days in this region.
Contact El Yak Mountain Biking and they will take care of your itinerary and bikes for the trip.
