When was the very first pizza made?

It is a well-known story that, in around 1889, to honor the Queen consort of Italy, Margherita of Savoy, the Neapolitan pizza maker Raffaele Esposito created the "Pizza Margherita", a pizza garnished with tomatoes, mozzarella, and basil, to represent the national colors of Italy, of the Italian flag.

But I feel the origins of pizza are much earlier. The history of pizza begins in antiquity, when various ancient cultures produced flatbreads with toppings. The precursor of pizza was probably the focaccia, a flat bread known to the Romans as panis focacius,  to which toppings were then added.  Modern pizza developed in Naples, when tomato was added to the focaccia in the late 18th century.

The word pizza was first documented in 997 A.D. in Gaeta,, near Naples, and successively in different parts of central and southern Italy. Pizza was mainly eaten in the country of Italy, and by emigrants brought from all around the world, especially into North America.
