Serious Humor at Manny's
Everest Toastmasters brought 'serious humor' to an appreciative audience on Sunday at Manny's Eatery and Tapas Bar. The gathering saw members of the Everest Toastmasters club perform stand-up comedy, which is garnering
a lot of attention in recent years. Yogesh Satyal, president of the club, stressed that Toast mastersis a well-rounded, self-paced learning program
which provides individuals ample opportunities
to hone communication, leadership and
organizing skills.
Ranjit Acharya, past president, member of the advisory board and a seasoned Toastmaster, who also hosted the show, warmed up the audience to the three performers for the evening. Acharya's characters "borrowed
from the audience" brought howls of
laughter when the faintest resemblances
were discovered. Displaying an amazing
flair for impromptu speeches, Sixit
Bhatta, current vice president, regaled
the audience with witty instances of dating his wife. Shailee Basnet, another member personalized her presentation with witty remarks about her recent marriage and cultural differences. The show-stealer, however, was Seema Golchha who had the whole house
rolling with laughter with her rendition of Hindu gods and goddesses and stunned everyone with her expert ventriloquism. She received a standing ovation for her maiden performance.
