Lasanaa's Live Art Hub Inaugurated
In the works since 2010, Lasanaa's Live Art Hub was finally inaugurated on 12 December at the premises of Martin
Chautari. The same venue Lasanaa has used for their monthly discussions on art for nearly three years. Ashamina Ranjit
and guest speakers talked about how the idea went back years, and expressed due gratitude to DANIDA for their
support in making the project happen. Danish Ambassador, H.E. Morten Jespersen added that the embassy was happy
to be a part of the project and wished for a successful campaign, then proceeded to award five fellowships to individual
and collaborative project submissions from Lasanaa's Teche-Kala workshop. Awarded projects focus on social awareness
through art, using artifacts and issues to drive their creativity. Ranjit, Sanjay Chitrakar of the KU center for Art and Design,
and Jupiter Pradhan will be taking up posts as mentors to these artists. Two performance installations concluded the
opening, an auto-destructive piece by Pradhan followed by a performance from one of the awarded fellow. The hub itself is
plain and occupies a small area in the corner along the west wall of Martin Chautari but its potential to act as a common ground for art students and others wanting to explore their creative potential is immense.
