Inauguration of Swarwanam Theater
Swarwanam, after 31 years in the theater field in Nepal, launched its own building at Kalikasthan, Basjhyang, Kathmandu. Space means different things to different people. For the theater artists, who are always in search of a space to stage their next play, having a space of their own is like having found a home. The Saturday event was in celebration of the attainment of the same - space. Ashesh Malla and Dr. Sabitri Malla Kakshapati- the husband-wife duo took it upon themselves to erect a building dedicated to art. The building houses a workshop room, a gallery, a library, an auditorium and a cafeteria. Some of the renowned theater personalities like Birendra Hamal, Anup Baral, and Sunil Pokhrel, were present to give audience to an artist’s vision. The event was part presentation and part staging of the play ‘Sakuni Pasaharu’ - a modern twist to the mythological Mahabharata. Ashesh Malla is the playwright and director of the play, which is a representative of the ill infecting the good in the world. 'Sakuni Pasaharu' will be staged everyday from 1 April to 24 April at 5:30 p.m. at Swarwanam Theater.
