Five Treasures of Great Snow Launched
A new book revealing the great Himalayan expeditions
'Five Treasures of Great Snow' was launched on 5
April at the Kathmandu Guest House in Thamel amidst
distinguished guests from the Norwegian embassy
including the Norwegian Ambassador, and honorable
minister Lokendra Bista Magar, the chief guest for the
event.
Jon Gangdal, author of the book said “The idea of this
book came in 2006 but the contents of the book dates
back to expeditions long ago. The book describes the
earlier days of polar expeditions which were at the time
also politically motivated. Norwegian climbing expeditions
in Nepal have been a persistent activity and the book
describes precisely the iconic moments of its history."
The program that lasted a little over an hour that evening
also featured a short summary from Kanak Mani Dixit who
in his say described the book as a pioneering work and
one that relayed the message of the departure of conflict
in Nepal and the beginning of peace and stability. Apart
from Gangdal, Karl Kerner and Buddha Publications have
translated and printed the book respectively
